Q: "When using Squirrel Mail I receive the following message(s):

UID COPY failed: Message copy failed: Disk quota exceeded
COPY failed: Message copy failed: Disk quota exceeded"

A: Do the following:

  1. Log into Squirrelmail (Web Mail)
  2. Select one or two messages at a time and delete them from your Inbox box
  3. Then go to you Trash folder and delete the files from Trash, thus purging your system of these files.
  4. Repeat step 2 and 3 again

Once you start purging your email server of old deleted files, you will have more room to work. You can then gradually start to select more files at a time to delete. Start by deleting and purging one or two messages at a time. Then try deleted three or four messages at a time, then five or six at a time etc. until your Inbox and Trash folders are cleaned up as much as possible.

To avoid this problem in the future, try the following:

  1. Log into Squirrelmail (Web Mail)
  2. Click on the "Options" link at the top of the screen
  3. Then choose "Folder Preferences" from the right side of screen
  4. Under "Special Folder Options" at the top of the screen, Change the Trash pull down menu to "Do Not Use Trash"

This will automatically purge your files as soon as you deleted them. Regardless of whether or not you change this preference or not, you should always be in the habit of occasionally deleting old or unwanted emails from the server, especially if they contain large attachments. If you are using a third party email program to download email messages from the server (I.e Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express) you should have these programs delete the messages from the email server once they have been download to your PC.
