How to Create a ZIP File and Send Large Files

Email accounts on Bower Web Solutions’ servers can send and receive up to 15 megabyte emails. Typical email can send and receive up to 10 megs.

Really large files (up to 2 gigs right now) can be sent via .largefilesasap.com though they limit the number of free recipients and time available for download pretty drastically.

Large  files can be sent via youSendIt.com. As of this writing, files up to 50 megs can sent for free using the link above. 50 megs could be 10-50 high resolution jpg pictures from typical digital cameras. You will probably need to create an account and will  receive occasional offers to get you try their premium (pay) services. Exactly what you have to do changes, but it is still a good reliable why to transfer files.

Please let us know if you have success or issues with these services and/or have had success with other file sharing services.

Multiple files can be combined together to form a single zip file for ease of sending.

How to create and extract a ZIP File in Windows (ME/XP/2003/Vista/7)

Windows ME/XP/2003 have built in ZIP file support. It is therefore, very easy to make and extract ZIP files using these operating systems

To create a ZIP file:

Right click on a file, folder, or selection of files and click on the Send To menu option and then choose Compressed (zipped) Folder. The image at right shows the location of these menu items:

After selecting the Compressed (zipped) Folder menu option, the files will be zipped and you should now see a file that ends with .ZIP. The files name will be the name of the folder or file you compressed. If you compressed a selection of files, it will be the name of the first file in that selection.

To Create a Zip file using Mac OS X

To create a compressed file (.ZIP), either Control key+click on the file and choose “Create Archive” . Or you can click on a file, then go to the Action menu (the button that looks like a gear up in the Finder window’s toolbar), and choose “Create Archive” from there.

Either process will  create a new file, with the file extension “.zip” This is the compressed file. You can also compress several different files into one single archive file — just Command key+click (or Shift key+click contiguous files) on all the files you want included, then choose “Create Archive of _ Items” from the Action menu. A file will be created named “Archive.zip”.

To Open a Zip File (Mac or Windows ME or newer)

Just double-click it and Mac OS X and Windows ME/XP/2003/Vista/Windows 7 will automatically decompress it. There should not be a need for you to install additional software in order to create or open a standard .ZIP archived file.
